SOMERSET Rebels speedway club are to run special coaches from the Oak Tree Arena to the Millennium Stadium for the British Grand Prix at Cardiff on June 29.

Highbridge is hosting the Super Seven Premier League Pairs Championship the night before the Grand Prix and the club is offering fans the chance to make a weekend of it by staying the night in the Burnham area and leaving their cars at the Oak Tree Arena.

For a return fare of just £7.50, they will be able to "let the coach take the strain", avoiding the Severn Bridge tolls and the car-parking costs once they get to Cardiff.

This will give fans the chance on the Sunday to either take in further speedway action at the Welsh Open in Newport, or just enjoy the Burnham area before going home.

For further details of the coach travel to Cardiff, fans can contact Somerset's event organiser Di Phillips on 07879-018 383. Those wishing to find out further information about accommodation and places to visit around the Oak Tree Arena should visit the Burnham-on-Sea Tourist Information website at www.somersetbythesea.co.uk n With the start of the season just over two weeks away, work on improvements to the Oak Tree Arena has moved on apace. Teams of dedicated fans have been helping out, updating the pits area by putting in paths so that spectators can visit the pits prior to the start of meetings. The new stadium entrance is all but complete and adjacent to it, the groundwork has started for the new track shop.

It doesn't look as if the new air fence will be in ready for the first match of the season against Czestochowa on March 16, as it is being serviced. However, already installed is the new track lighting system, which should greatly improve rider safety and also enhance the spectator experience at the track.
