West Clubs Women’s League
Sedgemoor Division 1
Burnham-on-Sea 1, White Eagles 2nds 2
BURNHAM began in subdued fashion, unable to build on the success of last week despite many fine performances.
The Blues started with good possession, Amy Edmundson making many forward runs, supported by Kerry Harvey and Olivia Hunt.
The ball yo-yoed between attacking Ds, with White Eagles finally finding the net for a 1-0 advantage.
But the hosts were not out of the game, with passes from defenders Chelsea Fisher, Caroline Hunt and Emma Ballard finding the forwards and keeping pressure on the away side.
That pressure finally paid off with a beautifully worked goal, Lou Peace’s free hit finding Harvey, who ran to the by-line and sent over a perfectly-timed pass back to Edmundson, who wrong-footed the goalie and equalised.
Both teams pushed hard and White Eagles attacked in numbers, but Sarah Johnson, Ellie Bishop, Ali Evely and Peace worked tirelessly.
With five minutes left of the first half, the visitors slipped another ball round the Burnham defence, and took a 2-1 lead, despite the efforts of home goalkeeper Nicki Glanville.
Burnham continued to play well, June England making many positive runs, while Harvey and Edmundson were denied by the Eagles keeper.
Slowed by the wind and the unseasonal heat, Burmham were unable to conjure up a second equaliser.
Player of the match: Caroline Hunt
Burnham are away to Taunton Vale 4ths on Saturday (4.30pm).
