West Club Women's League
Sedgemoor 1
Chard 4, Burnham-on-Sea 3
BURNHAM Ladies could not have done much more to secure their first win of the season in this see-saw relegation battle.
They went 1-0 down but quickly got back on level terms with a super goal from Amy Edmundson, who showed great composure after sterling work from attacking partner Kerry Harvey down the right.
Harvey then put the Blues ahead with a smart slap low in the corner after Sarah Johnson’s excellent pinpoint pass from a long corner.
Burnham looked comfortable at this point and held this lead midway into the second half, but had goalkeeper Nicki Glanville to thank; she was having a storming game and made countless saves, especially at short corners.
Ellie Bishop and Emma Ballard were impressive down the right as they battled hard against a constant stream of attacks but despite this the equaliser eventually came.
Again, Burnham did not let this deter them, going on the attack and forcing a short corner of their own, and it was from this they scored.
Caroline Hunt showed great persistence as she fired in from close range after a goalmouth scramble.
Unfortunately, as the minutes ticked down the Blues just could not hold on to what would have been a vital win and conceded not only an equaliser but a winning goal in the final seconds of the match.
To say the team were gutted at the final whistle is a massive understatement.
Player of the match: Nicki Glanville
Burnham now have to pick themselves up for another away game on Saturday, against White Eagles (11am start).
Training continues at 7-8.30pm on Mondays at KAS.
