West Clubs Women’s League
Brunel Division 1
Burnham-on-Sea 1, Winscombe 6
BURNHAM ladies’ winning run came to a disappointing end with a lacklustre and limp display.
With players in key positions missing, the Blues never really got going.
They were too often second to the ball and, with no rhythm to their passing, they huffed and puffed in the windy conditions but showed little quality.
Two unlucky deflections meant stand-in goalkeeper Emma Fellows had no chance of stopping the first two goals, but she went on to make several important saves later on.
Burnham had it all to do in the second half and their cause was not helped when they were hit by two breakaway goals having been caught upfield.
Macy Lucas showed great determination in midfield and was involved in everything positive Burnham did.
Kerry Harvey and Emma Ballard linked well down the right and tried to drive the team on as a few half chances came and went, before Winscombe scored again.
However, the Blues did manage a consolation goal towards the end as Hattie Rogers scored from the top of the D after good work by Amy Edmundson.
Player of the match: Macy Lucas
Burnham travel to Cheddar this Saturday (10am).
