WELLINGTON darts ace Ryan Searle set up an all-Somerset clash with Gary Anderson after a dazzling display against Steve West in his second round clash on Saturday.

Searle, who hails from Holcombe Rogus and plays in the Wellington Darts League, averaged 101.54 in his 3-0 victory, winning each set 3-2 and nailing 43% of his doubles.

The 32-year-old reached the fourth round last year and has the chance to repeat the feat on Monday afternoon when he takes on two-time world champion Anderson, who himself was in superb form in his 3-0 win over Brendan Dolan the second round.

Anderson, the Scot based in Burnham-on-Sea, is seeded fifth in this tournament after an injury-hit year but showed no signs of rustiness against Dolan, hitting seven 180s and dropping just one leg across the three sets.

Anderson, who turns 49 today (Sunday), told the media after that win: "I've been playing really well on the practice board but I went up there tonight and I was nowhere near it in the first set because of nerves.

"But there were some good signs there, the 180s and 140s are coming back and there were a few moments when I felt in full flow up there.

"I've not had a lot of stage time this year so I'm a bit out of practice and because of that I felt so nervous walking on stage.

"I've had four days solid on the practice board and I've been really happy with the way they're going so hopefully we will see that come out in the rest of the tournament.

"It's been a hard year, but I've been over the moon with the way it's being going on the practice board. Me and the practice board don't get on because the fishing rod has been taking over my life.

"I think I should be allowed to take medication for my back, but I can't. There are that many rules these days. There are days when I can throw and there are days when I can't.

"I've lived out of a suitcase for 24 years so it's been a bit of a wake-up call. I now enjoy spending my time at home."

Taunton's Justin Pipe has seen his World Championship run end before Christmas, meanwhile, after a straight-sets defeat against Daryl Gurney on Saturday night.

Pipe took the opening leg with a 104 checkout but sixth seed Gurney upped his game and claimed the next six legs on the spin, averaging 102 in the second set.

Pipe could take just one more leg in the match overall as he departed at the second round stage.
