Burnham-on-Sea RFC 28-17 Barton Hill RFC

Burnham-on-Sea RFC kept up their winning streak at the weekend, extending it to six which meant they remained in the top three of the league.

After some early pressure from Barton Hill, Burnham managed to spread the ball out to Toby Fear who broke two tackles and crossed the line to make it 5-0.

However Barton Hill were on their game and showed their strength by putting together some good running rugby to score close to the posts to take the lead, 5-7.

This was quickly followed by another try, even better than their first and at 5-12, it looked like it might run away from Burnham.

However, back came the Stags and with determined play amongst the forwards, they rumbled over to make it 10-12.

Not to be outdone, Barton Hill showed why they have one of the best away records in this league, after receiving 3 consecutive penalties they scored out wide and it was 10-17.

Burnham came back to be rewarded with a penalty directly in front of the posts. 13-17.

Just before halftime Barton Hill's clearing kick was caught by Beard, who then, showing strength, skill and determination,he weaved his way through, almost reaching the line, before offloading to Eoghan Westhoff to cross the line.

Burnham had the lead and came out in the second half and to show why they have one of the best home records in the league.

With dogged defence and some smart play they added to their tally with a converted try and a penalty goal to increase their lead to 28-17.

Finally, with two players in the sinbin they were called upon to produce some heroic tackling to keep Barton Hill out.

A proper game of rugby played by both teams with top spirit shown throughout.

Saying that, it was a sterling performance in defence from Burnham and they were 100 per cent deserved of the win.
