Midsomer Norton 12 - 64 Burnham-on-Sea
BURNHAM-on-Sea have won promotion from the Counties 1 Tribute Western North after finishing second in the competition.
They secured second place on Saturday after a convincing win over Midsomer Norton away from home.
In the match, Burnham were far too strong for their opponents winning the match 64 to 12.
Burnham-on-Sea RFC chairman Lee Berry said: "I am absolutely chuffed to bits, proud and honoured to be chairman and part of club history made today.
"All the hard work the lads do week in week out on the paddock has paid off.
"The players fully deserve this! What a club we are."
The winners of the division were Cinderford Seconds, who are unable to be promoted due to the firsts being in the league above. So, in a way, Burnham are promoted as league winners.
In the match itself, Will Hopkins opened the scoring with an early try which was converted.
This was soon after followed by a penalty conversison from Scott Havercroft to take it to 10-0.
Brandon Pettit made it 17-0 after his try was converted and Burnham were well in control.
Prolific tryscorer Eoghan Westhoff then ran in two very quick tries for himself, getting Burnham the bonus point for tries, and all but securing promotion.
Before half time Pettit went in for his second try and Ashley Cutter also scored meaning at the break the score was 45-0 in favour of the Stags.
Into the second half and it was more of the same from Burnham.
Sam Wall crossed shortly after the kick off and Connor crossed soon after for two very quick tries for the visitors.
Cutter picked up his second of the match just a few minutes after those and the score was 64-0.
With not long left on the clock, Midsomer Norton looked to gain some pride back and the home side did manage to pull two late tries back.
However it was all too late as the visitors were well clear and had done more than what was required to win the match and gain promotion.
After 22 games played this season in the Counties 1 Tribute Western North, Burnham won 17 and lost 5, finishing with 85 points on the league table.
A great season that was wrapped up with promotion.
