Counties 4 Tribute Somerset South: Crewkerne 12-27 Burnham-on-Sea II

BURNHAM-on-Sea RFC Second XV have completed a full season without losing a single game and such have won the league title as invincibles.

The final league match was away against Crewkerne RFC and whilst it was a close game, the Stags came out on top and won, 27 to 12.

The win means that the Burnham side have played sixteen games in the Counties 4 Tribute Somerset South division, winning all sixteen for a total of 80 league points.

Across the season, they have scored 661 points, conceding only 198 for a difference of 463.

That means, on average, the team score 41.3 points per game and concede only 12.3 on average. A truly impressive season for the deserved league winners.

A spokesperson for the club said: "Unreal from the lads unbeaten all season, up the Stags!

"Credit to the lads a class season unbeaten all year, credit to Sam kelly captaining the side and all the players giving their all.

"A record breaking season class performances we are going up."

In the final match against Crewkerne, Burnham took a 27 point lead as it looked like they would ease to victory in the game.

The home crowd could only watch on as Burnham ran riot in attack.

However, Crewkerne snapped out of their lul and managed to pull it back two tries in the second half to put some points on the board.

At this stage, Burnham knew that just had to hold the opponent out to take the win.

And that is what they did, as there was no more scores for either side and the match ended, 12-27.

It drew to a close a very impressive campaign for the Burnham Second XV.

Finally, the captain of the First XV, Tim Piper added: "A massive congratulations to Sam Kelly and his team for winning the league and to be able to have the opportunity to make this achievement.

"Well done to all players that have put on the 2s shirt this season and that have given their all. You thoroughly deserve this and what better way to do it against the "runner up" in the league."
