A breezy and drizzly morning set the tone for the February Medal and made the playing conditions a little tougher than of late at Brean Golf Club.
This however didn't prevent Murray Parsons from producing a stunning score of nett 62 to win Division Two courtesy of the best score of the day. He won by three shots from Jerry Brueford who handed in a very creditable 65 but found Parsons in his way in the second flight. Chris Fairchild was third on 69.
It wouldn't be a Brean competition if the name of Jones didn't feature in the prizes and it was Andrew Jones who maintained 'tradition' with a win in Division Three. He matched Brueford's return of 65 to claim top spot by 2 from Tony Turner who was left to rue a poor closing hole which slowed his progress. Tony McCann was third with his 68.
The biggest winning margin came in the top flight with 2022 Club Captain Pete Barton leading the way. His nett 67 brought him victory and was 4 clear of Steve Jones and 8 clear of the third placed man in Charlie Huggins as the Division One guys generally found it tough going out on the course.
The previous day's Winter League round was won by Steve Mason. He won a back nine countback with Andrew Smallwood after they both handed in scorecards of 42 points. Mason's back nine score of 21 points was sufficient to secure victory over Smallwood. Carl Ashley finished 3rd with a score of 39 points.
On a beautiful winter's day to open the month of February the Seniors contested their Monthly Stableford event last Thursday. Three players all returned scores of 39 points so it was down to the scrutiny of the back nine scores to decide the finishing order. Tim Amy came out on top being the better of the trio over the homeward run with Ian Adams being placed second and Dave Cogger having to settle for third.
