Somerset Division One: Burnham United 0-2 Ashton & Backwell United
BURNHAM United AFC were beaten at home at the weekend by Ashton & Backwell United.
It was a closely fought battle in the Uhlsport Somerset Division One that ended 0-2 to the visitors.
The result sees Ashton & Backwell move in front of Burnham on the league table into eighth place.
Up next for the first team is an away trip to Peasedown Miners Welfare on Saturday, March 16.
Elsewhere, Burnham United A team lost 4-0 away from home against Weston Crusaders in their match at the weekend.
Burnham United Reserves also lost on Saturday, 4-0 away from home against Peasedown Miners Welfare Reserves.
And finally, the Burnham United Sunday Team won 11-1 against Bridgwater Wolves on Sunday.
All in all it was a tough weekend for the Burnham sides but the club is switching focus to next week.
A spokesperson from the club said: "Not the Saturday we would have liked with all 3 teams losing but we pick ourselves up and look to next weekend.
"The Sunday lads had a great morning out winning comfortably ending the weekend on a high."
In other news at the club, last week the first team confirmed the signing of former player Cam Birch.
The club said: "Finally we can announce that Cammy Birch has returned to the club.
"It’s a huge and exciting signing for us and the manager is chuffed to bits to have him back."
Birch was straight back into the line up for the match at the weekend and will be in the side for the remainder of the season.
Burnham United AFC is currently fundraising money to help replace their clubhouse roof which is beyond repair.
A spokesperson said: "We are crowd funding in order to raise money to help with the cost of replacing the clubhouse roof.
"The clubhouse roof is in desperate need being replaced, the current roof is leaking and we have been told that it is beyond repair and will have to be replaced. The quoted cost of the new roof is £35,000."
So far the crowd funding campaign has raised £500 in just one weekend of it being set up.
"What an awesome start to our crowdfunding page Nearly £500 on the first day," the club spokesperson said.
"Thank you to every single person that has donated and shared the page - This won’t be achieved without your help and support!"
