Cheddar Ladies walking football team travelled to Midsomer Norton to play another great game of football in which Rosie Tucker scored a brace to help her team win 4-1.

The opening of the game went Norton’s way, but Cheddar had a superb goalkeeper in Lisa Machin, who was always going to be extremely difficult to beat even in a one-on-one situation.

The Cheddar side welcomed back Nicky Frewin, along with new addition Tracey Vallance, and these two were instrumental in a lot of what was good about Cheddar’s game.

The “old hands” of Cheryl Ward, Clare Martin, Rosie Tucker, and captain Sarah Williams were also a constant threat to the home team’s defence.

They also made sure that chances the chances that got through to Lisa Machin were very limited.

In the early stages Cheddar were unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions, however, it was not long before Cheddar took the lead, when Frewin went one better and stuck the ball powerfully into the back of the Norton net.

The Cheddar team were strong in possession and even stronger in defence, and although the Midsomer Norton team progressed well they always found the defence hard to breach, and Machin impossible to score past.

Soon after Cheddar made it 2-0 and it was a reward for Rosie Tucker’s excellent performance as she scored direct from a corner to put the visitors into a two-goal lead.

Norton finally broke through not long after and a superb finish from Amanda Bachrach was put superbly into the corner beyond the reach of the previously unbeatable Machin.

The next goal in the game came from Sarah Williams, who showed her expertise in front of goal and gave the Norton keeper no chance and restored the Cheddar two goal lead.

It was not long after this, when Cheddar “put the icing on the cake” as Tucker scored her second goal of the games, smashing a shot into the bottom corner past the Norton keeper.

There were various chances at either end, but both defences held strong until the final whistle.

Cheddar Ladies next play on May 28th at the Kings leisure centre sees, as these two teams face off against each other in the reversal of this week’s fixture.
