Experts at CS gambling site Clash.gg analysed Ollie Watkins’ followers after he scored the winning goal for England in the semi-final against the Netherlands.
It was England vs. Netherlands in the semi-final with a score of 1-1. Captain Harry Kane scored a penalty, levelling the score and giving England a fighting chance. Nearly at full time, with extra time looming, Southgate made last-minute substitutions – Ollie Watkins, 28, came on to replace Kane.
With just seconds left of full time, Watkins, the former Exeter City and Weston striker, scored a last-gasp goal, sealing the victory for England and securing their place in the Euros 2024 final against Spain.
After his heroic goal, Ollie Watkins then gained a staggering 78,852 followers on Instagram and sent social media into a frenzy.
This is a career defining moment for the rising star, who also plays for Aston Villa in the Premier League.
Gabriele Asaro, Head of SEO and Research at Clash.gg, has commented on the findings: “England are now in the Euros final for the second time in a row, thanks to Ollie Watkins. Scoring a goal like that with just seconds to go before dreaded extra time undoubtedly puts Watkins at the front of every England fan’s mind today.
“Evidently, football fans have swarmed to his Instagram to show their support for the player, with more than 78,000 hitting that follow button – and that is only overnight.
“It is safe to say this is only the beginning of Watkins’ success, as that goal has made history for England. As Watkins’ followers continue to rise, so does the anticipation for the Euros 2024 final. One more victory for England, and it’s coming home.
