Burnham-on-Sea Cricket Club’s second team travelled away to Huntspill and District this weekend to take on their second team but returned to Burnham with a tough seven wicket loss.
Burnham started the game batting after Huntspill won the toss, but after a relatively strong start their batsmen were unable to pile on runs as they were bowled out for just 144 runs in the 35th over.
In reply Huntspill were quick and efficient with their batting, knocking off the Burnham total after 26 overs whilst only losing three wickets to hand Burnham the seven-wicket loss.
Gerard King and Craig Lefrere opened the batting for Burnham and took the team to 35 runs before King was dismissed for 22 runs in the ninth over whilst Lefrere followed for 15 two overs later.
Ross James came to the crease to add nine before being bowled in the 14th with Burnham on 54-3.
Wicket keeper Ben Adams also came into add 21 runs before his dismissal after 32 balls.
However, after the competitive start Burnham wickets started to fall regularly as all of their second half batsmen were dismissed for single digits apart from Sam Goodhew.
Goodhew contributed 40 runs during his 40-ball innings and managed to singlehandedly drag his team to 132-8 before he was caught for his team-high score.
After Goodhew’s dismissal in the 29th Burnham’s final batters were able to add a few more runs before they were bowled out in the 35th over for 144 runs.
In reply Huntspill knocked off Burnham’s total within 26 overs whilst only losing three wickets along the way, one apiece to Goodhew, Joe O’Neill, and Archie Stamp, consigning Burnham to the seven-wicket loss.
