Burnham-on-Sea Cricket Club are in relegation trouble with four games left this season after a five-wicket defeat away from home.

The club are now bottom of Somerset Cricket League Division 1 and in danger of dropping into Division 2.

They travelled to Cranmore at the weekend who are comfortably in the top half as the season begins to draw to a close.

The hosts won the toss and chose to field but were kept to 195-9 off their 45 overs. Captain Peter Harris top scored with 46 off 60 balls before he was caught by Alex Richards off the bowling of Alex Raistrich.

Rob Driver was the third man in and scored 35 off 102 balls to anchor the innings before being bowled by Tyler Lane.

The only other two to break double figures were Matt Denman (18) and Ethan James (11) who carried his bat along with Aiden Roberts.

Burnham-on-Sea made a perfect start to defending 194 when they removed both Cranmore’s openers for ducks. But Raistrich, who had earlier taken 4-23, steadied the innings with 55 and Taylor Angell top scored with 67 before being caught and bowled.

Alex Richards scored the winning runs ending on 24 not out.

Cranmore won with 15 overs and three balls to spare. Burnham-on-Sea took 14 points in defeat but it was not enough to avoid dropping to the bottom of the league.
