Brean Golf Club conceded defeat to Stockwood Vale in the final of the Somerset Golf Union Rosebowl on Sunday.

The two teams faced off at Clevedon Golf Club, vying for the county's premier inter-club silverware.

Dan Broom's team started strong, with club champion Jez Clift and Chris Fairchild securing a 3&2 victory.

Despite this early success, Stockwood Vale began to dominate as the day progressed.

Pete Barton and Zak Jones managed to double Brean's points with a one-hole victory, but the remaining matches favoured Stockwood.

Broom and Leighton Jenkins, despite giving eight strokes to their opponents, lost on the 16th green.

Neil Barker and Kevin White also succumbed on the 17th green, losing by a two and one margin.

Reece McDermott and Simon Prior battled to salvage a one-hole deficit on the 18th, but Prior's putt slipped by, ending Brean's chances.

Stockwood Vale was subsequently crowned the champions for 2024.

Meanwhile, back at Brean, Leighton Jenkins clinched his third Seniors Club Championship title.

Despite struggling in the second round, Jenkins held on to win by six strokes from defending champion Pete Barton and Kevin White.

Jenkins's advantage from the challenging first day proved crucial.

Barton, who carded four birdies in six holes in the middle of his second round, posted the event's lowest score.

Kevin White matched Barton's clubhouse total of 172 but was placed third after a second-round countback.

In the nett event, Dave Cogger emerged victorious.

His second round of 70, added to his first round of 73, gave him a winning score of 143.

Dave Bradley was the runner-up on 147, while Martin Conway finished third with a two-round aggregate of 148.

Saturday's September Medal saw three players handing in scores of nett 65.

However, two of them were in the second division, necessitating a countback to decide the winner.

Simon Prior took top spot from Steve Mason, with Rob Perry third on 67.

The other 65 came from Dave Bradley in the third division, securing him a five-stroke victory over Mel Brown.

Steve Martin claimed third on 71.

In the top flight, no player matched their handicap.

Pete Hackett took the medal with a nett 70, holding a one-stroke advantage over Steve Bateman.

Barry Roe was third on 72, but the shot of the day came from Steve Jones, who scored a hole-in-one on the 7th.
