A former Highbridge gymnast has competed for Great Britain in the World Championships.

Kian Hawkes, who trained at Monarchs Gymnastics, moved to Tunbridge Wells in March after being invited to join a club there.

The team was looking for another male gymnast to complete a men's group.

Hawkes then participated in the British Championships, where he was selected to compete in the World Championships in Portugal.

Hawkes' group qualified in both the balance and dynamic competitions.

They finished sixth in the balance section, fifth in the combined, and fourth in the dynamic routine.

The group narrowly missed out on a bronze medal, losing to the Azerbaijan team by just 0.02 points, while China secured first place, while Israel came in second.

Monarchs Gymnastics expressed their pride in Hawkes' achievements, saying: "We were so proud to have been there to see them compete on the Sunday."

The club also highlighted Hawkes' coach, Chris Rogers, who was a former gymnast at Monarchs.

Rogers competed in national and international competitions before moving on to other clubs and eventually forming his own successful club.

Monarchs Gymnastics is currently seeking larger premises to accommodate more gymnasts.

The club, which currently operates from a small unit with just one floor, has a waiting list for younger gymnasts wishing to join competitive groups.

A spokesperson for the club said: "We have some very talented coaches and gymnasts, and due to the growth in our area, we have always got a waiting list for younger gymnasts being able to be brought in to the competitive groups."

Anyone who can assist in finding a larger unit is asked to contact Monarchs at mandymonarchs@gmail.com.
