The first silverware of the new month went to Steve Bateman as he won the Bill Anderson Memorial Trophy which is awarded to the best overall score in the November Medal. Bateman carded a gross 73 which, when his playing handicap was deducted, gave him a nett 66 and was two better than runner up Tony Richards.
He also won the Division One Medal from Richards with the duo recording the only two sub-par scores on the day. Dave Porter was third on 69. Level par 69 was the winning score in the Second Division and two of those scores had be separated by a countback. Steve Barker was declared the winner with the better back nine over Steve Mason with Mark Jenkins taking third on 71 after another countback. The computer was working overtime as it was also called in action to decide the outcome of the Division Three award. Dave Bradley secured the win with his nett 71 and just beat Dave Glasby who matched that score on the back nine. Ian Adams took third.
Seventeen teams of three took to the course on Sunday for the first of the Christmas competitions in the form of the Turkey Scramble. Despite the dull and drizzly overcast conditions scoring was pretty good with the winning score beating the par figure by 15 strokes. The nett 54 was posted by the trio of Matt Denman, Craig Wheelaghan and Charlie Huggins and they took victory by a single stroke from Mark Banczyk-Gee, Pete Barton and Mark Jenkins. Early leaders on the day were Club Captain Dan Broom, Dave Porter and Simon Baunton but they were eventually overhauled by the leading two teams and ended the day in third on 56.
Ian Adams was the winner of the Seniors October Medal after a superb nett 64 on Tuesday morning. This gave him a comfortable three stroke winning margin ahead of Mats Mattsson who posted a nett 67. Third place went to Nigel Ellis with a nett 68.
On the final day of October the second round of the Seniors Winter League was completed. A three ball format with two stableford scores to count on each hole was the order of the day and the winning trio of Ian Rogers, Barry roe and Mike Short scored 78 points between them. They won by one from Neil Barker, Mel Brown and Mike Hurman with Chris Fairchild, Brian Read and Nigel Ellis taking third on 72.
