It was the final AGM of the year this week with Dave Bedford looking back on a successful year before handing over responsibility to his successor Moly Mcmillan.
Prior to the routine parts of the meeting he was able to pass over a cheque for over £8,000 to Cancer Research UK and present Nigel Day with the trophy for the John Viney Order of Merit , snatched by a single point on the final competition of the year. The meeting itself was quick, always a good sign , and the three new captains, Moly and Fran Mcmillan with Kevin Vaux were able to complete their drive-ins with better than usual accuracy.
The Ladies finished off their month with the Christmas Pudding Competition. All the big puddings must be going to division 3 this year as that was where the highest scores were. Leading the way were Maggie Dommett and Susan Brearley with Maggie taking first place by virtue of a better back 3 after both players had scored 34.
Marion Warren-Smith was third on 29. Mandy Vearncombe finished top of division 1 on 31, just 2 better than Fran Mcmillan who beat Sue Mcdonald on countback. A close finish in division 2 had Janet Robson on 29 winning by a single point from Sue Edwards and Pam Berry. I hope they all enjoy their puddings.
The Seniors should have played the second round of their Winter League but had to settle for just 15 holes after grounds staff performed miracles to have the course open after heavy rain. Charlie Woodard led the way in division 1 with 34 points ahead of Paul Stephens and Dave Bedford . Bob Cotgrove was another to score 34, winning division 2 by just a single point from Steve Sweeting with Paul England in third place.
Scoring was not so good in division 3 but this produced a very close finish with 3 players all on 26 points, Countback gave first place to james Robertson from keith Bellingham and Peter Spinks.
